Benefits of coconut oil on the face

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, let me tell you this, one thing that hasn’t changed from our grandmothers time is the coconut oil and I remember while I was a toddler my granny used to apply coconut oil daily before going to bed and trust me that particular smell still reminds me of her. Coconut oil is an easily available product that has a long list of beauty benefits.

Coconut oil is still everyone’s favourite in today’s time as well and you will definitely find a bottle of coconut oil on every Indian shelf.

We all live in an Instagram era and everybody needs flawless and glowing skin these days and it’s the new trend that’s hit the world of beauty and glamour and trust me everyone wants to be a part of it. Radiant and glowing skin is now on the must-have list of everyone around. Picture-perfect, flawless skin is what we all desire no matter what colour, don’t we? 

Do you guys know? Coconut oil is considered an elixir for the skin? And it manages to defend against a variety of skin diseases and common skin problems. It’s a well-known fact that coconut oil has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties proven to successfully fight candida and other skin infections such as acne. These properties make coconut oil a very healthy choice for several health conditions as well. AH! The list is pretty exhaustive.

Coconut oil is a multi-talented guy, oil I mean oil…  And this amazing natural product is your skin best friend and depending on your skin type, you can use it as a moisturizer, cleanser, and even as a sunscreen, great isn’t it? 

Coconut oil helps in healing the skin because of the antioxidants present in it and it also helps in reducing inflammation as it contains fatty acids too. 

Coconut oil helps to hydrate the skin while preventing wrinkles and sagging skin.

Coconut oil contains Vitamin A that helps boost collagen productions thus keeping your skin wrinkle-free and Vitamin E promote the production of new skin cells. 

The lauric acid in coconut oil helps repair the damaged skin and prevent ageing signs on the face. 

Coconut oil is a natural emollient that helps your skin soft and supple. 

Here are some of the best ways in which coconut oil can be used in your daily beauty routine. 

  • FACE SCRUB: 

Mix coconut oil with coconut sugar and use the mixture on your face at least 2-3 times a week as a scrub. This will give you much smoother skin than ever before. 

  • FACE WASH: 

Melt the coconut oil in a pan, add 1tbsp of baking soda and add at least 5 tbsp of your favourite essential oil that suits your face. Store this homemade face was in a liquid jar and wash your face twice a day. 

  • NIGHT CREAM: 

If you are prone to face acne add a few drops of coconut oil to your moisturizer and apply it at night before going to the bed. If not, you can apply the coconut oil as it is on your face. 

  • LIP BALM: 

 Add a few drops of coconut oil to any of your lip balm or chapstick, and use it on a regular basis, this will help you in making your lips moist and getting rid of dry lips. 

  • MAKEUP REMOVER:

Removing make-up is a major task especially for the ladies. Instead of removing your make-up with other chemicals, remove it with coconut oil. This will help in making your skin hydrated and more softer. 

  • SUNBURN: 

The harsh rays of the sun can dry your delicate skin and make you look older. If you experience redness and itching coconut oil can actually help you as it rehydrates your skin sooner. 

  • INSECT REPELLENT:

Mosquito bites really look horrible on the face and skin, don’t they? There’s an easy way to get rid of them, here’s how… just mix some coconut oil with any of your favourite essential oil and apply the mixture directly to the insect bite and repeat the process after a few hours. 

  • GLOWING SKIN:

Coconut oil helps to keep the skin glowing when applied on a daily basis, this is due to its moisturizing properties that remove excessive dryness and control fine lines and wrinkles. 

Just take 1tbsp of coconut oil, 1 tbsp of almond oil and mix well. Massage gently on the face before going to bed. Use this remedy 2-3 times a week for smooth and glowing skin. 

HERE’S A SECRET REMEDY:

Mix Aloe vera gel + any petroleum jelly of your choice + glycerin ( vitamin e capsules) + coconut oil 

Mix them all well and place them in a freezer

Apply this magical cream before bed on a washed/scrubbed face and you will the coldness of the cream and that instant smoothness is refreshing. 

This mixture of cold cream will help you glow in the dark too ( just kidding) but seriously this mix is amazing and it’s also helpful for under-eye bags and dark circles. 

WHO SHOULD NOT BE USING COCONUT OIL:

While we spoke about the benefits of coconut oil all the way, applying it to the skin might not be ideal for everyone. Those who have oily skin might want to avoid doing so as it blocks pores and causes blackheads. 

Additionally, if you have highly sensitive or oily skin, use a small amount of coconut oil or try applying it to a small section of skin to make sure it doesn’t cause irritation or blocked pores. 

With that said, consider adding coconut oil to your diet instead to take advantage of its benefits. 

NOTE: Coconut oil could potentially clog pores. Using a small amount and slowly testing your tolerance to it is recommended for those with oily and sensitive skin.
